QxBxRx Moving Back to BK + 4 Year Anniversary

Photo by Rebecca Handler www.rebeccahandler.comHey QxBxRx-ers!!!

On January 8, 2011, QxBxRx (Queers, Beers & Rears, aka QBR) was shut down by the cops for being over capacity. Although disappointing for everyone who attended, for us, and the Cake Shop, it was great to see such a kick-ass turnout!

For almost 4 years, we have rocked out in the Lower East Side in the basement of one of NYC's best indie music venues. We've had so many amazing local, national, and international performers hit the stage to support the DIY queer punk community.

Our goal has and always will be to support awesome and new indie music, while creating a space for rowdy homos and their friends to converge. Many memories and many friendships have been made over the years because of this party, so we've decided that it's time for us to do something special together...

We're Moving...Back to Brooklyn
We’re stoked to announce that on Saturday, March 5th, QxBxRx will move to PUBLIC ASSEMBLY on North 6th St, between Wythe and Kent (off the L Bedford stop). Some of you may recall that QxBxRx originally started out in 2007 in Williamsburg as a weekly DJ party at Cyn Lounge, and that we moved to Cake Shop because we wanted a live experience at our weekly event. We are happy to be moving back only a few blocks from where we got our start.

Save The Date: QxBxRx 4-Year Anniversary Bash, Sat, 3/5
We’re bringing QxBxRx to our new venue with a bang! Our opening night will feature special guests MAKING FRIENDZ, RAD PONY, KORDAN, PEOPLE AT PARTIES, and a late night performance by the lovely DARLINDA JUST DARLINDA. Resident QxBxRx DJs GO-KARFF, A.MARTINI and SIR LOINS will continue to spin a mix of punk, indie, glam, electronic and more. We will send out official details in the next couple of weeks, as we are taking February off.

Some Facts About Our Move to Public Assembly
  • The old industrial mayonnaise factory (ahem), formerly known as the Galapagos Art Space, has hosted amazing art, performance, and music events for over a decade. Check out www.publicassemblynyc.com.
  • Our friend Christina Bouza, former member of QxBxRx-vets Boyskout, manages and books for Public Assembly, and has welcomed us into their space to continue partying with you every 1st Saturday of the month. We are very grateful for this opportunity to continue to support a local business that supports indie music and the DIY community.
  • Public Assembly already hosts a number of queer/gay-friendly parties that many of you attend, and that we have much love for, including HEY QUEEN!, JUDY, RUMOURS, XANADUDE, and more!!!
  • Our party will be located in the BACKROOM of the venue, which is much larger than the basement at Cake Shop, and features a full stage, top of the line sound system, a big dance floor, and a full bar - get ready for a bigger QxBxRx!
  • Our parties will now always begin at 10PM with a 10-11PM OPEN BAR, and drink specials now and then. Bands will therefore start playing a little earlier (like around 11pm or 11:30pm), instead of at midnight.
  • We will continue to keep the cover charge low enough to bring you great shows!

Thank you everyone for your amazing support over the past 4 years of QxBxRx! Please continue to support Cake Shop events, as they have been very good to us. Visit their website for show listings at www.cake-shop.com.

We truly appreciate how awesome your dedication is to coming out and partying with us. We love hosting, booking bands and putting on a great night for you, and look forward to seeing you in March!

Goodbye Cummies, Hello Dead Sparrows

Dsprws

A few months back you may remember when The Cummies rocked QxBxRx. Since then, the band turned from 3 members to 4, wrote some rocking new songs and officially formed Dead Sparrows.

Judge Accused of Advocating Corrective Rape for Lesbians

Femalesoldiercredusarmy
Part-time magistrate, Joe Rehyansky, told a conservative paper that Lesbians, who simply have low sex drives, should be allowed to serve in the military so our heterosexual male counterparts can convert them. (low sex drives? Obviously Joe doesn't know the same lezies I do).

Here are some other great quotes from QxBxRx's douche bag of the month:

"it fell to men to swing through the trees and scour the caves in search of as many women as possible to subdue and impregnate – a tough job but someone had to do it.”

“Gays spread disease at a rate out of all proportion to their numbers in our population and should be excluded from the military."

Henry Rollins Stirs it up at Cake Shop [VIDEO]

This video has certainly gone viral and quickly too. Why do the QxBxRx boys care so much? We know and love a bunch of these peeps!

Firstly, you may recognize Ren (the fella with the longish dark hair at the door). Ren used to work at Cake Shop, held some of Long Islands most stellar and important DIY punk shows in his parent's basement in the late 90's (Against Me! among a few) and was our original contact with Cake Shop. Thanks Ren!

The maven Meredith Gaydosh, who heckled Henry Rollins, shared many antics with Erik Karff (a.k.a. Go-Karff), co-founder and dj at QxBxRx. Meredith is our good and boisterous friend, all-around great gal, rock-star bartender and pretty bummed about some people's reactions. So, if you see Meredith give her a great big gay high five! 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false
